Professor Chulwoo Lee joined the UW law faculty for the Winter and Spring Quarters of 2011 as Garvey Schubert & Barer Visiting Professor of Asian Law. He is a professor of law at Yonsei Law School, Seoul, Korea, where he teaches sociology of law, citizenship and migration, and related courses. Before joining the law faculty of Yonsei University in 2006, he was a faculty member of the College of Law, Sungkyunkwan University (1999-2006), and of the Graduate School of International Area Studies, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (1997-1999).

Professor Lee served as managing editor of the Korean Journal of Law and Society (2009-2010) and participates in various academic organizations and activities, including the Organizing Committee for the 2nd East Asian Law and Society Conference to be held in Seoul in September/October 2011. On various occasions he has provided advice for the Immigration Service, Ministry of Justice of the Government of Korea, and was a member of the Special Committee on Nationality Law Amendment (2008-2009). He has been elected President of the Korean International Migration Association and will succeed to the position in 2013.

Chulwoo Lee's areas of academic interest include law and social theory, social history of law, and citizenship and nationhood. Among his current research themes are "The Law and Politics of Ethnizenship" and "Sovereignty, Governmentality, and Statelessness."
