Dean Hotchkiss joined the full-time faculty in 1999. She served as Assistant Dean for Academic Services from 2002-2005 and as Director of Academic Advising from 2005-2009. She was appointed Associate Dean for Students in June 2009.
Her administrative responsibilities include oversight of recruitment, admissions, and financial aid. Dean Hotchkiss provides personal counseling and academic advising, including review of internal petitions related to the J.D. program and oversight of study abroad programs. She serves as the primary liaison for student organizations, coordinates the first-year mentor programs, and supports school-wide diversity initiatives.
Dean Hotchkiss is a Senior Lecturer at the UW School of Law and holds an adjunct appointment at the UW Information School. She teaches Advanced Legal Research, Information Policy, and Employment Law. Her research interests include legal research teaching methods, information policy, and access to justice issues. She is the editor-in-chief of Perspectives: Teaching Legal Research and Writing. A graduate of The George Washington University Law School, she worked at a Maryland law firm specializing in tax and estate planning. She served as a law librarian at the White House and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit. She is admitted to the Maryland bar.
