LAW E581 Reproductive Rights and Justice Seminar
Credits: 8-8, Variable
This seminar is designed to provide law students an opportunity for in-depth study of the constitutional framework governing reproductive rights in the United States. We will also consider critique of that framework from feminist theorists, from those who oppose abortion and contraception, and from and on behalf of people whose reproductive decisions – including whether to become a parent and the parenting of one’s children– have been historically contested and regulated. Students will study different bases for reproductive rights claims, including privacy, equality, dignity, and, increasingly, human rights. Finally, students will consider how social and political views of sexuality, race, and poverty inform reproductive health policy in the United States.
