LAW E559 Fair Housing and Community Development

This course will take an in depth look at the law as it relates to housing discrimination in all its forms. It will begin with a consideration of constitutional and statutory prohibitions on discrimination in the sale, leasing, development and marketing of housing based on race, religion, nationality, gender, family status, and disability. It will then proceed to consider kinds of discrimination that are not prohibited by federal law but are widely prohibited in many states, such as discrimination based on marital status and sexual orientation. It will end with a consideration of economic discrimination and the general problem of homelessness in America.
