An overview of American legal history from colonial times to the civil rights era. Readings cover early constitutionalism, the republican revolution, the antebellum codification movement, the end of slavery, the regulatory state, and rights of women and minority groups. Graduate students welcome; also advanced undergraduates with instructor’s permission.
