Law E547 Legal Protection of Computer Software

This course will cover the statutes, cases, and treaties which provide legal protection for computer software. The course will address copyright, patent, trademark, trade dress, trade secret, and contract protection for software. Topics include legal protection for source code, user interfaces, protocols, computer languages, fonts, multi-media software, and electronic databases; legal issues raised by publishing or distributing software and information via the Internet and World Wide Web; and the role of license agreements in software protection. This course is intended for students having basic knowledge of intellectual property law substantially equivalent to Law A546 Patents and Law A526 Copyrights and Trademarks.
