The Technology Law and Public Policy Clinic has two missions: using year long projects to provide students with an opportunity to craft policy in those areas where public policy and high technology intersect and allowing students to work in conjunction with practicing attorneys as advisors to selected non-profit organizations who are using high technology to further their organization’s goals.

- William Covington Presents to the State Legislature on Statewide Video Franchising
William Covington, director of the Technology Law & Public Policy Clinic, lead a legislative workshop on the issue of statewide video franchising for the Technology, Energy and Communications committee of the Washington State legislature on November 30, 2007. Washington State is considering following the lead of seventeen other states in taking the video franchising authority away from local government and transferring it to the state.
- Narrows Bridge crossing records to be held for 8 years - KOMO
The high-tech monitoring system that will soon go into operation on the Tacoma Narrows Bridges is "completely new territory" for Washington state, said UW law professor William Covington. "There are huge numbers of unknowns." Radio Frequency Identification Technology (RFID) is being employed by seven major transportation providers in Washington State including METRO, Community Transit of Snohomish County and the Washington State Ferry System. Significant issues that remain unresolved include how data shall be gathered, methods and procedures for insuring data security and determining what parties shall have access to the gathered information.
- UW Law Shidler Center, Technology Clinic Receives 'Cy Pres' Funding
The United States Court in California approved the distribution of $80,000 in cy pres award funds to the UW School of Law's Shidler Center for Law, Commerce & Technology; $45,000 in award funds was allocated for the UW School of Law's Technology Law and Public Policy Clinic.
