On April 24, the University of Washington’s CASRIP and Waseda University’s RCLIP jointly sponsored a patent law seminar in which Judge Kent Jordan from the District Court of Delaware delivered a keynote speech and participated in panel discussions comparing claim construction under U.S. and Japanese patent laws. Prof. Toshiko Takenaka, CASRIP Director, moderated the panel discussions and Mr. Barry Bretschneider, a CASRIP executive committee member, served as a panelist.
In June, CASRIP and the Tokyo Medical and Dental University sponsored a seminar on trademark and copyright protection for pharmaceutical products. Prof. Takenaka gave an introductory remark covering the major differences between U.S. and Japanese trademark and copyright laws and Ms. Signe Naeve, Assistant Director of CASRIP, gave the main presentation on the protection of pharmaceutical products. Ms. Naeve also delivered the presentation at the Osaka Institute of Technology.
