MCHB Judson Falknor Appellate Advocacy Competition

The Moot Court Honor Board is proud to announce the 2013 Judson Falknor Appellate Advocacy Competition. This year's problem presents an interesting challenge for competitors with two constitutional issues. Participants will write a brief and present an oral argument with a teammate, advancing past the preliminary rounds based on accumulated points. All participants will receive points for use in application to the Moot Court Honor Board, and the top three 2L competitors will be invited to the National Team that competes annually in New York.

Please join us to celebrate the installation of Professor Stewart Jay as the Pendleton Miller Chair in Law on February 27, 2013. The installation ceremony will include Professor Jay’s lecture, Constitutional Mischief: The Promise and Perils of Judicial Review,
in the Magnuson/Jackson Courtroom, Room 138, William H. Gates Hall. A reception honoring Professor Jay will immediately follow in Room 115.

Stealing from worker’s pockets: The prevalence of wage theft and proposed legislative responses in Washington.
Presented by: Students for Labor and Employment Justice
Andrea Schmitt from Columbia Legal Services joins us to share about the prevalence of wage theft for workers in Washington State. She will be joined by a representative from Casa Latina’s Worker Defense Committee who will speak about the reality of being a victim of wage theft as a worker in Washington. Both advocates will discuss current proposed legislative responses to the problem and challenges to these solutions.
