Visiting Scholars Admissions and Application
Admission to the Visiting Scholars Program is highly competitive.
An appointment
as a Visiting Scholar requires a formal faculty approval and is not automatic.
We require a 3-5 page detailed description of the applicant’s proposed research
project and its relevance for educational, policy or practice purposes.
We also require two letters of recommendation assessing the applicant’s suitability for this kind of research project.
Tuition and Fees
Visiting Scholars pay a fee (currently $8,000 per annum or $800 per month),
which covers the costs of their visit, access to Law School and library
facilities and resources, and other Visiting Scholars Program scholarly and
social activities. An additional separate fee applies to process
J-1/DS-2019 visa documents through the UW International Scholars
Office (ISO). Effective Sept. 1 2012, ISO has increased the DS-2019 processing fee to $195 per person.
Fee waivers will be available in limited circumstances and are generally limited
to legal academics and professionals invited by Law School faculty and centers
to engage in research projects at the Law School each year. Invitees are subject to UW visa processing fees.
