At the UW School of Law it is our goal to lead in the delivery of professional legal education by preparing students for the challenge of practice in the 21st century, and by producing influential scholarship dedicated to the development of law, legal institutions and policies that advance justice throughout the nation and the world.

Academics, Scholarship & Curriculum

The UW School of Law is one of the nation’s top public law schools with a long and distinguished tradition of serving the citizens of the state, the nation and, increasingly, the world. And, because of our seven J.D. concentration tracks, numerous joint degree programs with our other schools and postgraduate Ph.D. and LL.M. programs, our students have the opportunity to develop a very specialized law degree.

Experience the Law

At the UW School of Law, we believe that the best way to educate future lawyers and leaders is to provide them with a strong foundation in legal theory, an understanding of the broad role the law plays in society, and the chance to experience the law first-hand. Through our clinics and externship programs every student at the school has an opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the law. Through our centers, students and faculty are able to collaborate with faculty across campus in disciplines ranging from health to business to technology.

Our Community

Students at the UW School of Law are an outstanding group. They rank in the 90th percentile of all entering law students on the LSAT and have an average 3.67 GPA. The UW School of Law is committed to diversity--our student body consists of 48.9% women; 28% students of color; 64.8% Washington residents. Twelve percent hold other graduate degrees.

Graduates of our law school have been leading practitioners, highly respected judges and innovative business leaders. Through their scholarship and service, UW law faculty have influenced public policy, legal theory and law reform. Reflecting a longstanding commitment to public service, countless UW law alumni are employed in government or with public interest organizations, while others have given of their time and talent through law firm pro bono activities.
