Hometown: Wayzata, MN
Education: BA Reed College

Why I chose UWLS:
  • A sense of community
  • Faculty is engaged in the things I want to learn
  • A dedication to public service
  • Practical Legal Experience

My name is Jacob A. Faleschini. People call me Jake Faleschini. I am a 1L here at the Law School and I went to Reed College down in Portland, Oregon. I did my undergraduate degree – my B.A. – in international relations and comparative policy studies.

I really like the way the UW is focused on public service and on public policy. It really seems to encourage a student involvement in public life, a student engagement with one another, a real sense of community that I really appreciate. The professors that were here were really engaged with the type of things that I wanted to learn. They were professors that were very dedicated to public service, very dedicated to promoting, uh, very focused on government and how government can be involved in ordinary citizens lives and learning the legal aspects of public policy. There were also a lot of professors that were focused on the public international sphere which is the sphere that I really wanted to focus on. And in particular a couple of professors – one new to the school and one who's been here for a long time – that focused on the aspects of international criminal law that especially appeal to me. And so I think that the focus on public life, on the professors that were here, the student body that I met…, the building itself and the administration and their focus on the student body really led me to choose the University of Washington.

Over the summer I'll be working at the U.S. Attorney's office here in the western district of Washington, working with the U.S. attorneys that prosecute organized crime here in the western district of Washington. So hopefully learning whether or not the organized criminals are a little bit nicer out here on the West Coast as everyone else seems to be.
