Education: BS/BA Oregon State University

Why I chose UWLS:
  • The UW and Seattle are home to the world's best healthcare research
  • The Master's of Public Health/ JD concurrent degree program
  • A faculty that will help you build a toolbox of skills
  • Many ways to succeed

My name is Jill Brunner. I'm a second year law student and I went to Oregon State University for my undergraduate degrees where I majored in microbiology and international studies.

By coming here I was able to sort of combine all of my interests in one place and that was Seattle and the great health care industry that's going on here. I was able, I'm doing a Master's in public health concurrently to my law degree and ... I think they're currently ranked like fourth, the school of public health here and then a top ten public health school. It had it all in one package.

Yes, the health, the health care academics at the university are, frankly, some of the best in the world, if not the best in the world. The researchers that come out of the medical school, the school of public health, and the researchers within a bunch of different academic departments have been able to focus their work in a way that highlights some of the international aspects and that's another reason that I was pulled here is the focus on global issues.

The biggest comfort that I've found in coming here is that you really can make your own path. And you can take what you already have, the tools that you're already equipped with, and you can figure out what that means to you and how you can use those tools in your toolbox to better the world. And there's the faculty here that are willing to help you make that happen and they're going to put you in touch with the right people, they're going to ask you the right questions to prepare you, and I really feel that there's not, coming here there's not a set expectation of what you're supposed to be and how you're supposed to be an attorney. There's a lot of different ways to succeed here and that's something that I really appreciate and have, have valued.

I absolutely feel like I made the right choice in coming here.
