Enrolling at the UW School of Law

What to Do Before Orientation

There are a few things you will need to do before the JD 1L Orientation in September:

  • To apply for financial aid, submit your FAFSA application by February 15 in order to make the February 28 deadline. See Applying for Financial Aid for further instructions.
  • Submit your Intent to Enroll Form - prior to June 1, fill out the form indicating whether or not you plan to attend the UW School of Law, or whether you are still uncertain at this time. This will greatly assist us in our planning and may perhaps allow admission of waiting list candidates.
  • Submit $100 Enrollment Confirmation Deposit - due June 1 (info sent from UW Registrar)
Checks should be made payable to "University of Washington" and should be mailed no later than June 1 to:

    University of Washington
    Registrar's Mail Services Office
    Box 355850
    Seattle, WA 98195-5850
  • Send an Official Transcript - offer of admission is contingent upon the filing of an official transcript recording the award of your bachelor's degree. The one we received with your LSDAS report is unofficial and does not meet this requirement. Please ask your undergraduate school to send by July 21 an official transcript recording the receipt of your bachelor's degree to:

    JD Admissions Office
    William H. Gates Hall
    UW School of Law
    Box 353020
    Seattle, WA 98195-3020
  • Submit your Immunization Form - all students at the UW are required to complete this form before they can register
  • Set up your UW NetID & Email - your UW NetID allows you to access university-only web information including MyUW, your personal student portal where you will find links to register for classes, view and pay your tuition bill, and other important tasks. Your UW NetID is also the next step for setting up your email account at the UW.
  • Register for 1L Classes - directions will be sent to you during the summer
  • International students should consider attending the Summer Institute in Transnational Law and Practice in early September.

You will no doubt have questions about settling into life as a student at the law school, at the UW, and in Seattle. See Law Student Life for online resources on housing, healthcare and other information.
