Each time I meet with our alumni I am reminded that they are the foundation of this school’s success. I look forward to each opportunity to enjoy their stories and feedback. During March, I’ll talk with our alums in New York, Washington, D.C. and in the California desert. If you are an alumnus in one of these locations, please join me.

A Week of Inspiration

A special welcome this week to the Honorable William Fletcher, our 2012 Shefelman Visiting Jurist-in-Residence, and to the esteemed Japanese law scholars who join us for the Asian Law Center’s spotlight on Japan. - 2/21/12

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

Our Admissions office is in full swing! They conducted 75 recruiting events, here in Seattle and across the country this fall. This week they mailed the first of the student acceptance letters. Thus begins the building the Class of 2015 whose accomplishments, intelligence and experience earn them to right to be called Leaders for the Global Common Good in training. - 12/29/11

Twelve Clinics – Reaching 70% of Our Students – WOW!

We know that participating in a clinic helps a student find the passion for a satisfying legal career. For over 30 years, our clinics have provided context for students’ classroom studies while offering expertise vital in today’s legal practice. Read more. - 11/29/11

Congratulations Justice Gonzalez

UW Law wishes to acknowledge long-time friend of the law school, and husband of Assistant Dean Michelle González, on his appointment to the WA State Supreme Court. Justice Gonzalez will take the seat of Justice Gerry Alexander ’64 who is retiring at the end of the year and will thereafter join UW Law to teach its Olympia quarter - 11/17/11

Welcome New Faculty

Our faculty members are the intellectual leaders of UW Law, and our history is replete with a proud tradition of faculty excellence. Building on that legacy, this year we welcome three outstanding teacher/scholars in core areas of emphasis, Professor Sanne Knudsen in environmental law, Professor Zahr Said in intellectual property law, and Professor Lisa Manheim in constitutional law. - 9/19/11

Congratulations to Mike ’64 & Lynn Garvey

Last week, Mike & Lynn Garvey received the 2011 Gates Volunteer Service Award, the highest honor given to UW volunteers. We are grateful for Mr. Garvey’s time and devotion over the years. A successful business man and community volunteer, he exemplifies all we hold dear at UW Law. We salute the Garveys as true Leaders for the Global Common Good. - 9/12/11

Forum, Symposium and Conference – Oh My!

While it’s still summer according to the calendar and our students do not return to class until later in September, our halls continue to buzz with law school co-sponsored events. The events this week include the International Tax Forum, the 24th Annual Indian Law Symposium, and the 9/11 Conference presented by the Slade Gorton International Policy Center.  - 9/1/11

Announcing the Launch of UW Law Legal Studies Research Paper Series

Our faculty’s collective research is an impressive body of imaginative and influential scholarship. To share their vital work, we’ve begun an eJournal with the Social Science Research Network (SSRN) where we provide abstracts, working drafts and final research online. Learn more. - 8/12/11

Welcome Summer Institute Participants

Many students experience a summer of learning outside our walls, but our halls are far from quiet as we welcome participants from around the world to the 17th Annual CASRIP Summer Institute. Addressing the Institute are internationally-known leaders and scholars in the field of intellectual property law including Chief Judge Randall Rader from the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. Students Put Studies Into Action

While the halls of our law school may be quet this summer, we know our students are on the move. All of them experience a summer of continued learning, and many gain additional knowledge by working as interns in the U.S. and around the world. - 6/25/11

Congratulations to Professor Emeritus Marjorie Rombauer '60

Earlier this month, at the Library of Congress in D.C., Professor Rombauer received the prestigious Burton Award for “Outstanding Contributions to Legal Writing Education.” Long considered a visionary at UW Law, Rombauer elevated the field from a curriculum afterthought to a vital academic discipline. Our faculty, staff, alumni and students salute her! - 6/16/11

As the academic year draws to an end, we salute our J.D. and Ph. D. graduates. We know that these graduates face a daunting world yet we know that during their years at UW Law we’ve encouraged them to gain intellectual sophistication, professional and leadership skills, and the moral courage to not only do things right, but to also do the right thing.- 5/31/11

Our Commitment to Multi-disciplinary Study

Guided by our mission of educating leaders for this century's complex problems, we encourage our students to develop multi-disciplinary projects. This week we commend GreenLaw, a student organization dedicated to environmental sustainability, as it presents a panel discussion of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and celebrates the launch of the Washington Journal of Environmental Law & Policy. - 5/22/11

Welcoming the Honorable A. Raymond Randolph

To support our mission of ethical advocacy, we proudly announce the Shefelman Jurist-in-Residence Program and its inaugural speaker Judge Randolph, Circuit Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Each year, as part of this new program, we will feature one prominent jurist who will share judicial perspectives and help us further integrate legal education and law practice. - 5/06/11

PILA - Generating enthusiasm for public interest law

This year, PILA, our largest and most active student organization, celebrates its "Sweet Sixteen" anniversary. Since 1994, they have funded more than 170 public interest projects at organizations across the state and around the world, continuing our mission as Leaders for the Global Common Good.
